Swansea man sentenced to prison for child rape
The Bristol County District Attorney's Office said Wednesday that a 73-year-old Swansea man was sentenced to serve 25 to 30 years in prison on child rape charges.
A spokesman said Lawrence Lamphier was convicted Tuesday of four counts of rape of a child -- aggravated by age, two counts rape of a child by force, and three counts of indecent assault and battery on a person under 14 years of age.
Prosecutors said Lamphier repeatedly raped two family members in his home between 2012 and 2014. One of the victims was 4 to 6 years old during the rapes and the other was 7 to 9 years old, prosecutors said. Both testified at Lamphier's trial.
"Despite the defendant's age, the sentence imposed by the court is well deserved," District Attorney Thomas Quinn said in a statement.
Police began an investigation in June 2014 when the victims told their mother about the alleged assaults.
