Man shot at Taunton apartment complex
TAUNTON, Mass. (WJAR) —
Taunton police said they found a wounded man and arrested two people on drug charges during an investigation into a shooting.
Police said they were called to the Taunton Woods apartments at 840 County St. at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday for a report of multiple gunshots. Investigators recovered a cell phone and gun casings from the scene.
Police said they found Purvis Cole, 22, of New Bedford, in some nearby woods. He had a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a Rhode Island Hospital, but left against medical advice.
Purvis was with a woman from the apartment complex, police said.
During the search for the shooter, police said they saw two people trying to run to a car.
One of them was a 16-year-old boy who was charged with drug possession, witness intimidation and disorderly conduct.
The second person was arrested after a short search involving a helicopter. Police said 28-year-old Ozair Gomes was charged with drug possession, disorderly conduct disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.
Police said none of the four people involved have been cooperative.
The shooter has not been identified.
