Taunton police are investigating a shooting early Thursday morning by the Taunton Woods apartments at 840 County St.

Taunton police said they found a wounded man and arrested two people on drug charges during an investigation into a shooting.

Police said they were called to the Taunton Woods apartments at 840 County St. at about 11:15 p.m. Wednesday for a report of multiple gunshots. Investigators recovered a cell phone and gun casings from the scene.

Police said they found Purvis Cole, 22, of New Bedford, in some nearby woods. He had a gunshot wound to the chest. He was taken to a Rhode Island Hospital, but left against medical advice.

Purvis was with a woman from the apartment complex, police said.

One of them was a 16-year-old boy who was charged with drug possession, witness intimidation and disorderly conduct.

The second person was arrested after a short search involving a helicopter. Police said 28-year-old Ozair Gomes was charged with drug possession, disorderly conduct disturbing the peace and resisting arrest.

Police said none of the four people involved have been cooperative.
