Two Warwick schools close amid district-wide consolidation
Changes are coming to several schools in Warwick, as two are closing for good.
It's part of a district-wide consolidation.
The School Committee approved a plan to close John Wickes Elementary and Randall Holden Elementary Tuesday night.
The plan is set to begin for the fall 2018-2019 school year.
Warwick school officials said it’s difficult to keep both schools operating when enrollment numbers are low.
The closures are happening despite protests from parents, who said they moved to be in specific districts.
NBC 10 reached out to Director of Elementary Education Lynn Dambruch, who was not available for an interview.
Meanwhile, a high school and two junior high schools in Warwick previously closed as part of the consolidation plans.
