Westerly man faces child pornography charges

A 32-year-old Westerly man has been arrested on federal child pornography charges.

Police raided the home of Jonathan Breslin on Wednesday and seized a computer, a digital media storage device and a cellphone, all of which allegedly contained child pornography images.

Breslin was detained after an initial court appearance before a federal magistrate judge.

The investigation into Breslin was sparked when police in Saskatchewan, Canada, arrested a person on an unrelated matter. A search of that person's cellphone led to the discovery of a mobile chat application used to discuss and share images and videos of child pornography. A subsequent investigation by Canadian authorities identified 78 unique users who they allege shared or communicated about child pornography, including the suspect.
