Weymouth man arrested for gun possession during routine traffic stop
NORTON, Mass. (WJAR) —
Norton Police arrested one man for gun possession after a routine traffic stop in Norton.
Police say the officer stopped a Black Acura on East Main Street just before 10:30 pm on Saturday night.
In a press release to NBC 10, Investigators say the traffic stop was due to the vehicle being operated without headlights. After stopping the car, the officer, Patrolman Sean Mahoney, realized the registration to the vehicle was suspended.
The operator of the vehicle, 23-year old Jarmina Kallon of Weymouth was told his car would be towed as a result. When officers searched the vehicle, they discovered a loaded 9mm Ruger semi-automatic handgun in a jacket that was left on the front passenger seat of the car.
Police confirm Kallon did not have a license to carry the firearm and was placed under arrest.
The driver has been charged with possession of ammunition without a license and unlawful carrying of a firearm.
Kallon was released on $1,000 bail and is due in Attleboro District Court on Monday, December 18th.
