Woonsocket man faces child molestation charge
A Woonsocket man accused of sexually assaulting a relative and assaulting his girlfriend faced a judge on Tuesday.
Christian Gonzalez, 27, turned himself in to police on Monday, one day after police said he assaulted his girlfriend at a home on Bourdon Boulevard in Woonsocket.
She told police Gonzalez arrived home on Sunday intoxicated. When she asked him to leave, Gonzalez pushed her into the refrigerator and onto the ground.
Gonzalez’s girlfriend told police his two children, a seven-year-old and an infant, where there when it happened. He was charged with domestic disorderly conduct and domestic assault and battery.
Gonzalez was also charged with first-degree child molestation. The victim, a relative of Gonzalez, came forward in 2014.
He told police that Gonzalez had sexually assaulted him about 20 times when he was between 10 and 17 years old. The victim also said he was hesitant to come forward because Gonzalez threatened to harm his family if he told anyone.
A warrant was issued for Gonzalez on the child molestation charge in April, following a secret indictment. The warrant was cancelled this week after Gonzalez turned himself in to police.
Gonzalez was ordered held without bail. His bail hearing will be July 11.
Police said it's possible there may be more victims. Investigators encouraged them to come forward. The Woonsocket police phone number is 401-766-1212.
