Worcester DA: Man shot during confrontation with officers
LUNENBURG, Mass. (WJAR) —
The Worcester County District Attorney's Office said Friday that a man was shot in the hand early Friday during a confrontation with police officers in Lunenburg.
Officers were dispatched to Chase Road at about 12:30 a.m. to check on a report of a suspicious man.
The district attorney said Brian Binder pulled a handgun from a backpack and fired at police when officers tried to talk to him.
Police returned fire, striking Binder in the hand.
The district said Binder dropped the gun and started running toward some woods, but was captured.
Binder, 31, was treated at UMass Memorial Medical Center in Worcester and released into police custody.
Binder was arraigned in Fitchburg District Court on two counts of attempted murder, two counts of assault to murder and gun counts. He was held without bail pending a dangerousness hearing on Tuesday.
Police said Binder's hometown was unknown.
No police officers were hurt.
