WWII veteran receives medals
CRANSTON, R.I. (WJAR) —
A World War II veteran received medals on Friday.
Williard D. “Bud” Voigt earned a number of medals during the war, but never received any medals.
U.S. Sen. Jack Reed had a ceremony and presented Voigt with the Bronze Star, Purple Hear, and several other awards.
Voigt grew up in Fall River and graduated from Durfee High School in 1943 and enlisted in the Army upon graduation.
He served with the 90th Infantry Division in Northern France and was wounded by a grenade during an attack on a German machine gun nest.
After the war, he was station in Germany as part of an Allie occupation force and returned to the States in 1946.
He had a long career as a financial advisor and was married to Gladwyn Voigt, who attended the ceremony with their children and grandchildren.
