Xfinity Center to introduce new exit to help ease traffic, boost safety
MANSFIELD, Mass. (WJAR) —
Concert-goers at the Xfinity Center in Mansfield will soon have another option to exit the venue.
Mansfield town officials confirmed Friday that the concert venue and the property next door are working on installing a gate and an exit route that will take certain drivers around the back of the property and out onto South Main Street.
"We live in a different world now,” said Michael Trowbridge, the chairman of the town’s Board of Selectmen. “A second entrance and exit actually is better for fire safety, as far as if anything was to happen. It also relieves the pressure of everybody waiting for an hour to get out of there."
Vehicles exiting using the new route will only be allowed to turn right and head south towards Norton. One extra detail police officer will be added between 9:30 p.m. and 1 a.m. to make sure the traffic exits going in the right direction.
The extra traffic detail, like all the detail on concert nights, will be paid for by the venue.
For concert-goers in the area, an added option to mitigate traffic congestion is a no-brainer.
"I think it's great,” said Katie Johnson of North Attleborough. “It's always a real pain getting out of there after a concert, so having an extra exit for people going south is going to help out a lot."
The 2018 concert season begins in May.
