Traffic Alert: Pontiac Avenue in Cranston to be temporarily closed Friday
CRANSTON, R.I. (WJAR) —
Pontiac Avenue at Pettaconsett Avenue in Cranston will be temporarily closed on Friday, Oct. 13.
The Cranston Police Department said starting at noon, crews will begin putting a trench there and then covering it with temporary bridges as part of a sewer project.
“Local traffic will be allowed to access area businesses,” police noted. “Heavy congestion and delays should be expected, so motorists should avoid the area or seek alternate routes if possible.”
The following detours will be in place:
- Truck traffic entering the Pettaconsett Industrial Park should use Pontiac Avenue southbound to Glen Road and exit the same way.
- Traffic going to Garden City or Chapel View shopping centers should use New London Avenue (Route 2).
“The road should re-open by 4 p.m., however traffic will be limited to 15 mph on the bridges until the project is complete,” police said. “Trucks and busses will be allowed to travel over the temporary bridges. The project is expected to last until the morning of Monday, Oct. 16.”
