Community rallies in support of boy, 7, critically injured while riding his bike
A local community is coming together to help a 7-year-old boy who remains in critical condition after he was hit by a car.
Jayden Rodriguez was struck while riding his bicycle in Newport last Friday.
A post on Bike to the Beach’s website notes that the organization raises funds for Autism Awareness and has partnered with Bike Newport for the last five years. The organizers said the fundraiser gives Bike Newport a means to not only raise money, but also awareness for Jayden and his loved ones.
“We’re happy to support this decision by Bike Newport and we encourage everyone in the community to get behind the effort and show Jayden the love and support that is so present for him,” said Robby Walsh, who is Bike to the Beach’s executive director.
The 62-mile ride from Woonsocket to Newport will take place Saturday from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m.
“His family thanks everyone for all their prayers and well wishes and asks that you keep him in your thoughts,” the website noted, adding that Jaden loves being active and enjoys sports like biking and football. “Let’s all get on board and help get Jayden back on his feet, on his bike, and onto the field.”
