CRANSTON, R.I. -- Let your neighbors know about what's going on in your city or town. Share your vacation pictures. Suggest a great place to eat.
My Town Common is the place to find information about where you live. Contact your elected officials. Find out about the schools in your area. Learn about senior services in your community.
With the creative and technical expertise of Creative Circle Advertising Solutions, NBC10 launches a new community Web site called MyTownCommon.com. This Web site allows users to post neighborhood stories, photos, events and Classifieds FOR FREE!
"We’re so excited to have this new website," said Kim Reis, general manager of turnto10.com. “Our 'parent website' (turnto10.com) is full of wonderful content and information and covers such a broad range of towns.
MyTownCommon.com allows the news and information to be separated by neighborhoods so users can see the news that is most important to them in a smaller community. It also allows smaller advertisers to target specific audiences so they can market their messages to the people who live in their town.
“The concept of giving everyone the opportunity to express their ideas, post photos and calendar items and share their news is a new concept for media web sites,” said Bill Ostendorf, CEO of Creative Circle and a consultant to more than 250 media companies worldwide. “It’s great to see NBC 10 take the lead in Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass., to give everyone the opportunity to have a voice in a web site like this. It should help build community and create a more open dialogue about issues in the region.”
Features of MyTownCommon.com include localized news, weather, obituaries, stories, photos, classifieds, dining, calendar event listings and town resources (like schools, town council members, trash pickup dates, animal control, senior services, etc).
Registered users can host their own blogs and track their posts on their profile page. There are also some great features for users to send birthday/anniversary messages to loved ones in little cartoon bubbles! MyTownCommon.com covers all of Rhode Island as well as towns in South Eastern Massachusetts.
If you love your community, keep in mind that MyTownCommon.com is also looking for volunteers to act as Community Captains. If you are interested, please send an e-mail to Kim Reis.
