Poll: Charlie Baker most popular governor in America
Gov. Charlie Baker of Massachusetts is the most popular governor in America, according to a new poll.
The new Morning Consult rankings place him No. 1 with an approval rating of 75 percent.
Baker is a Republican in a traditionally Democratic state, as is No. 2 in the poll: Gov. Larry Hogan of Maryland.
"Both governors have reputations as shrewd, bipartisan dealmakers who value results over party purity, and their constituents seem to appreciate that style," Morning Consult said.
Baker's disapproval rating is 17 percent.
Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo, a Democrat, falls in the bottom half of the pack at No. 37, with an approval rating of 48 percent and a disapproval rating of 45 percent.
Morning Consult said Gov. Dan Malloy of Connecticut remains the most unpopular Democratic governor in the country.
The least popular governor overall is New Jersey Republican Chris Christie. His approval rating is 25 percent. His disapproval rating is 71 percent.
Morning Consult said more than 85,000 registered voters evaluated the job performance of their governors from January through March to determine the rankings.
Morning Consult also ranked America's most and least popular U.S. senators.
