Raimondo announces bid for re-election as RI governor on social media
Rhode Island Gov. Gina Raimondo, who is the Ocean State’s first female governor, is seeking re-election.
“Today, I’m announcing that I’m running for re-election as your Governor! I hope you’ll give me the chance to finish the job we’ve started together,” the Democrat posted on social media Tuesday at 4:30 p.m.
A 30-second video accompanied the post, with Raimondo saying the state has improved since she was elected in 2014.
“Not that long ago, Rhode Islanders were throwing up their hands, giving up,” she said. “Now, we’re rolling up our sleeves and getting back to work. We’ve gone from having the 36th worst economy in America, to the ninth best. We’re becoming a state again where everybody can keep up and get ahead. I love Rhode Island and I’m ready to keep working with you to bring about the change that people need and deserve.”
