Rhode Island's budget officer is projecting a $237 million deficit in the next budget year.

The Providence Journal reports that a memo sent to agency heads last month from state Budget Officer Thomas Mullaney says the office is forecasting the deficit for fiscal year 2019, which will run from July 1, 2018 through June 30, 2019.

According to the memo, the projected shortfall doesn't account for the $25 million in cuts Democratic Gov. Gina Raimondo agreed to make as part of this year's budget deal.

Mullaney says Raimondo has asked each agency to provide options to achieve a ten percent reduction to their budget.

Lawmakers passed a $9.2 billion state budget on Aug. 3, ending a more than monthlong impasse. The state had been without a budget since July 1.
