David Duke commits to PC Friars men’s basketball team
David Duke Jr. has committed to the Providence College Friars men’s basketball team.
Duke, a top 50 recruit, shared a video on Twitter posted by "Hoop Major" Friday night, explaining why he chose PC.
“Growing up in my hometown, it’s easy to get distracted from what matters the most,” Duke, a guard who hails from Providence and went to Classical High School, said in the video. “Fortunately for me, my parents have kept me on the right track and reminded me that in order to be successful, you’ve got to stay focused and strive to be the best in everything that you do.”
Duke went on to say that while he was “blessed” to have multiple colleges interested in recruiting him to their respective teams, Providence spoke to his heart.
After some thought, he realized PC was a perfect match for him to pursue his basketball dreams.
“Why not do it right here, where the people who love me the most can witness?” he said.
In the video, Duke also shares a phone he made to PC Head Coach Ed Cooley.
“Tell me what you want to do,” Cooley said, with Duke quickly telling Cooley that he and his family “decided to go with the Friars, man.”
Cooley didn’t waste any time expressing his happiness.
“Oh, man! I love it!” Cooley said. “You made my year, man.”
Duke smiled and said, “I decided to stay home. I’m staying home.”
