ESPN: NFL to hear appeal in Edelman suspension
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (WJAR) —
The NFL is hearing an appeal Monday from a star New England Patriots player accused of using performance enhancing drugs, according to ESPN.
Julian Edelman is facing a four-game suspension.
Sources told ESPN that Edelman plans to mount a "vigorous defense" questioning the league's handling of his case.
Reports of a failed drug test surfaced earlier this month. The league's drug testers reportedly didn't recognize the substance.
A source told ESPN that another key issue at the center of Edelman's appeal involves alleged mishandling of the documentation and delivery of test results.
Edelman apologized for the failed test, but he said he doesn't know what happened.
Edelman, a 32-year-old receiver, missed last season because of an ACL tear.
