Fans wait in long line for Patriots victory gear

They're the most coveted items in Southern New England, and while you can get the official Super Bowl hat and T-shirt online -- and at stores across the area -- thousands of the most die-hard Patriots had to purchase them at the team's ProShop at Gillette Stadium.

"Unreal. This is dope," said one fan.

"I had to get down here. This is where I want to be," said another.

The best time to beat the shopping rush was early Monday morning, at about 6 a.m. when the doors opened. By 9 a.m., a massive line had formed outside the door, forcing fans to act fast once inside.

"I just scrambled to get my hat real quick because that’s the main priority," said Edson Resendes of North Providence.

"I just grabbed a few extras because I know everybody is going to want them," said Joe Ouellette of Middleborough.

One manager who has worked at the store for all five Super Bowl victories said Monday was by far the busiest of all the championships.

While fans will have to wait longer in line than planned, they said it was worth it to get a piece of history and to purchase it at the home of the Patriots.

"This gear represents history, you know, the fact that we came back 25 points down, you know, best feeling in the world," said Curtis Kwetey of New York.

At one point, the line was 1,000 people deep. One employee said the store would likely sell more Patriots apparel Monday than it normally would during a Patriots home game.

The Patriots ProShop is open until 9 p.m. Monday.
