Tom Brady’s mother, Galynn, opens up to NFL Network about cancer battle
Tom Brady’s mother, Galynn, spoke about her battle with cancer during an exclusive interview with the NFL Network.
“I just remember sitting in the doctor’s office and him telling me, you know, ‘You have breast cancer and it’s only stage two,'” Galynn, who was diagnosed in the summer of 2016, told reporter Andrea Kremer. “The kind of cancer I have is a very fast-growing, aggressive kind of cancer and it’s going to require a lot of chemotherapy and radiation. And so the journey began.”
Tom Brady Sr. was by Galynn’s side during the interview. At times, he held back tears.
“Hearing about it the first time -- that my wife of many years – I could lose her, and I’m not ready to lose my wife. She’s been my wife and confident now for 48 years.”
Galynn, who underwent multiple surgeries, also said her son has given her courage and strength. Despite missing several of his games, she felt like she was with him the whole time, as she still watched every single one and they stayed connected as often as possible.
“I think there’s a special bond between a mother and a son,” she said, telling Kremer that it means a lot to her every time Tom gives her a shout out after games.
“He doesn’t say, ‘Hi, dad,’” Tom Brady Sr. said with a laugh.
