On The Slopes: Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month
The best way to learn how to ski or snowboard would be by taking a lesson from a trained instructor.
The month of January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, when venues make their best offers to beginners. To celebrate January as Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month, many participating ski areas offer first time alpine skiers or snowboarders a special discounted learning package that includes a lesson, rentals, and beginners lift tickets.
Cranmore Mountain resort in North Conway, New Hampshire, is one of the resorts participating. We spoke to Megan Penny, the marketing and communications director at Cranmore Mountain Resort, and she spoke to us about the Learn to Ski and Snowbaord Month.
"So the month of January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. A bunch of resorts participate and what it is, it gives people the opportunity to ski and ride but at a discounted rate. So we have $39 lessons all throughout the month of January. It does have some restrictions. It's for ages 13-plus, but it's a perfect way to get on the mountain for the first time," Penny said.
Taking a ski lesson from a trained professional is the best way to improve, particularly if you are a beginner. Your instructor will serve as your guide on the mountain. They're there to help you have fun and coach you every step of the way.
"I definitely think it's important to take a lesson from an instructor here at Cranmore. We have a bunch of instructors. Everybody has a lot of experience. And they really love teaching at what they do and they want to pass down their love of skiing to their guests", Penny said.
Lessons from professional instructors are available all winter long, but Learn to Ski and Snowboard, with their best beginner learning deals, lasts only through the month of January.
