On The Tee: Travel bags for golf clubs

It's that time of year again. The season of golf is in full swing.

With the warm weather, many golfers have begun to hit their favorite courses in the area. While some golfers might enjoy playing locally, some may plan a golf getaway. If you're planning a trip you need a way to get your golf clubs to the destination safe and sound. You can't take your clubs in the airplane cabin, so they have to go in the cargo hold with the rest of your luggage. So if you're going to travel with your clubs, protect your golf clubs with a quality travel bag. Here some thoughts when choosing a golf travel bag.

We spoke to Mike Roy from Golfers’ Warehouse on what to look for when buying a golf travel bag.

"No. 1, what are you looking to spend and what are you looking to put in the bag? Shoes, whether you're looking to pack your dirty laundry after a trip. Certainly for the ease you're going to want something with wheels. Makes it easier to roll through the airport travel. Other than that, it's going to come to the protection of your clubs," Roy said.

Pro golfers do the most golf travel with their clubs, traveling from tournament to tournament. They put the most mileage and have to protect their investment. So what golf travel bags do nearly every tour player use?

"Pros, almost 90 percent or more, are going to use Club Glove, which is our high end travel gear. It's a very customizable luggage. You can put club logos on there, your initials. It comes in a variety of colors. It also has a limited lifetime guarantee as far as rippage and zippers breaking and stuff like that. They'll warranty most of the bags," Roy said.

The Club Glove Last Bag is constructed of heavy duty materials. The Last Bag Large Pro is designed to carry any size stand bag or carry bag. It has two large external side pockets for extra storage. It does come in 16 colors to choose from and can be personalized. It is made of Cordura fabric, which makes the bag lightweight and resistant to tears, scuffs and abrasions. The Large Pro golf bag fits up to a 47 inch driver. The Last Bag has a patented high impact wheelbase with in-line skating wheels and bearings that allow the bag to be rolled with ease. The solid base allows the bag to stand upright. There is extra room in the bag for other gear as well.

"The one thing that we do recommend, if you are going to be putting clubs into a travel bag, it's to use something ... called a stiff arm. It basically adjusts to whatever the longest club in your bag is. And if you're going to get your luggage thrown around, this will take the beating, not your golf clubs," Roy said.

The Club Glove Last Bag will protect your golf gear during your travels and like it's name, will be the last bag travel bag you buy.
