Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright faces domestic assault charge
Boston Red Sox pitcher Steven Wright was arrested and charged with domestic assault following a dispute with his wife, Sharon, at their Tennessee home.
Wright, who was also charged with prevention of a 911 call, was released Saturday morning on bond.
His lawyer said the altercation, which happened Friday, was strictly verbal and that no physical abuse took place.
"We are aware of the incident involving Steven. This is certainly a matter that the Red Sox take very seriously. It is our understanding that both local police and Major League Baseball are looking into this, and for that reason the club won't have any further comment at this time," the Red Sox said in a statement.
Wright made the All-Star team in 2016 as a member of the Red Sox, while injuries kept him out of all but five games this past season.
He's scheduled to appear in court Dec. 21.
