NBC 10 kicked off its charitable giving campaign, "10 Cares" with a telethon to benefit Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island. The day-long event began with NBC 10 News Sunrise at 4:30 a.m. and concluded with the 7 p.m. newscast. As a result, more than one million miles and $12,000 were raised to help make the wishes of Rhode Island and Massachusetts children with life-threatening medical conditions come true. In addition to donating the airtime and all promotional spots throughout the day, NBC 10 also donated $5,000 to the campaign.

"We're so pleased to play a part to help raise awareness and valuable airline miles to help local kids' travel wishes come true," said Chris Lanni, NBC 10 News Director. "This is exactly the reason that we developed '10 Cares,' to help make a difference in our local community."

NBC 10 is the most watched television news station in Southern New England during the just-completed November 2012 ratings period, according to Nielsen data. Of the seven most watched newscasts in the market, six are produced by WJAR. Seven of WJAR's 10 daily newscasts beat the competition combined. This marks the 63rd consecutive year in which NBC 10 has remained the overall ratings leader inSouthern New England.

"We are beyond thrilled by the tremendous support of NBC 10," said Paula Montgomery, Rhode Island's Regional Director of the Make-A-Wish Massachusetts and Rhode Island. "The majority of our wishes involve airline travel and with the average round trip domestic ticket utilizing approximately 35,000 to 50,000 miles, we'll be able to grant many, many wishes moving forward."
