Tuesday's Child Jose finds father, mentor
PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WJAR) —
Jose was a young boy when he first went into foster care.
He courageously appeared in "Tuesday's Child" segments numerous times, with the hope of finding a permanent home.
But without the result we were looking for.
"It was frustrating but I knew my time would come," Jose said.
And it did.
"Your show aired, and I said I'm going to do this," said Dave Lefort.
Dave, single his whole life, was inspired to adopt when watching "Tuesday's Child" but specifically Jose after seeing his Adoption Rhode Island heart gallery portrait.
During their first meeting, they talked for an hour and a half.
"Took off from there, perfect match," Dave said.
"He's really outgoing, funny sometimes, and definitely a hard worker," Jose said.
A few months later, they went to Family Court and made it official.
Their 3,600-square-foot home in Providence is a long way from the group home.
Jose not only got a father, he also got a mentor. Dave renovates homes, and they just worked together to renovate a nearby historic Greek revival.
"I'm extremely proud of him and he's done really good," Dave said.
Dave is learning something new too. He says cooking was never his forte, but he has somebody to feed now.
The icing on the cake for Jose, another big dream has also come true.
"Yeah, I'll be driving," he said.
Dave and Jose, a family now. They started late, but they finished strong.
