Next round of winter weather arrives Tuesday night
A Winter Storm Watch is in effect for northwestern Rhode Island, as well as ALL of Massachusetts from Boston west to the Berkshires.
This is for LATE Tuesday night into Wednesday:
Low pressure to our west as of Monday night will redevelop over the water east of the Chesapeake Bay on Tuesday. This storm will bring the likelihood of a slow & slippery Wednesday morning commute.
There remains some uncertainty as to how close to the coast this storm will track.
But there is decent agreement between the American GFS forecast ensembles and its counterpart the European model.
Take a look:
So, at this point, we are more confident of higher snow amounts north & west of interstate 95 and it seems more likely that snow may mix with or even switch over to rain at times south & east of Providence.
It appears most likely that the morning commute Wednesday will be impacted, the snow or mix of rain and snow will end between noon & 3 p.m. Wednesday.
These amounts can certainly change over the next day as the storm's path becomes cleaer, so stay tuned to future forecasts.
