StormTeam10: Record high set Thursday
The high temperature hit 60 degrees around 2:30 PM Thursday afternoon setting a new record high for the date. The old high of 59 had stood for 42 years!
While 60 degree temps in January are certainly not unheard of, they do not happen with regularity. In fact, the last time we saw a 60 degree temp in January was nearly 3 years ago to the day, January 11, 2014. And before today, 60 degree or higher temps in January had only occurred 8 times in the last 10 years in the Providence area.
In case you're curious as to how warm it has gotten in the month of January, I have that for you as well. The highest all-time January temp on record in Providence is 69 degrees & it was set on 2 different dates. Originally on January 14, 1975 and then most recently on the 29th of the month in 2002.
Cooler & drier air arrives Friday morning and we are in for a MUCH colder weekend...expect temps in the teens for both mornings and highs Saturday afternoon will barely reach 30 degrees! Winter still has about 9 weeks left, but who's counting??
