The nonprofit organization South County Habitat for Humanity is being forced to move out of its space in Peace Dale at the Palisades Mill and will have to find a new home.
The Palisades Mill has been home to South County Habitat for Humanity for the past 10 years. The organization builds affordable housing for residents.
The owner of Palisades Mill, Eric Thunberg, said in an email statement that he has another need for the space.
"I've given them as much time as they need to find a new location and have waived the rent they would otherwise owe for their last few months to help ease the transition," said Thunberg.
Colin Penney, executive director of South County Habitat for Humanity, said the organization is fortunate to have the space for as long as it has, but the timing is not great.
"We've built about two houses this year, but we just broke ground this week on a seven-house development in Hopkinton, which is our largest development ever," Penney said.
Penney said Habitat for Humanity's new location will need to have specific features for its future projects.
"We're looking for a space anywhere from 2,500 to 5,000 square feet that we can build walls in. So, it's got to have a garage door of some sort so we can take them in and out, store lumber, it also allows us to keep all the equipment out of the weather and help us preserve that and use it year in and year out," he said.
Penney said the organization hopes to stay local to South County.
Habitat for Humanity is open to hearing suggestions on where it could go next. Officials say the best way to reach them is though the contact form.
