Tiny house in West Warwick big hit

    The Lil'Lodge, a new house in West Warwick is small, but it’s attracting large amounts of attention.

    Looks can be deceiving.

    A new house in West Warwick is small, but it's attracting large amounts of attention.

    While it's compact, it has everything most homes have - and more.

    It's called the Lil'Lodge, and it's high tech.{}

    "It just happened to be tiny," said architectural designer Tracy Powell. "It's got more luxury appointments and amenities than most homes do."

    Powell and her brother, along with more than 20 engineers and building experts, created the home.

    It's not finished yet.

    But, once it is, Powell said she plans to live in it.

    "Every year, I am moving around for my job and this time I thought, 'I'll just bring my home with me,'" said Powell.

    She went on to explain how the size and dimensions are different from average homes.

    "It's 150 square feet total," Powell said.

    Most homes are well over 1,000 square feet.

    Yet, the Lil'Lodge can be attached to any standard size pickup truck.{} It can be parked at campgrounds or other sites.

    Everything inside is attached and built in.{} It's equipped with a washer and dryer, dishwasher, as well as a full bath.

    There are no hallways and furniture is not needed.

    Others features, such as a security system, can be connected to a cell phone.

    The home costs between $40,000 and $50,000.

    Powell said there are other tiny homes that may be more affordable.

    However, this design is energy efficient and environmentally friendly.

    "This really strives to be the safest structure possible," said Powell. "It's made out of all metal, steel studs, and Dryvit for the siding."

    The grand opening of the home with be at the Architecture Boston{}Expo, held{}Nov.17-19 in Boston. {}
