A local cancer doctor is educating through TikTok videos.

"They're very short clips, they're 15 seconds long at the longest," said Dr. Don Dizon, director of women's cancers at Lifespan Cancer Institute. He has traditionally had a strong presence on social media.

More recently, he's been posting on TikTok.

"TikTok allowed me to create snippets of video with some music on it which I know drives engagement on other platforms," said Dizon.

Those TikTok videos are also posted on his Instagram and Twitter pages.

His newest video: How to talk to folks with a cancer diagnosis has tips on what and what not to say.

He says making these short, informational clips has introduced patients to him even before they meet.

"We're all being looked up. They want to know what we're about," said Dizon.

The reactions?

"It's been really interesting in so far as they come in and say, oh my gosh, it's you. It's you from TikTok," said Dizon. "I think if they realize that there's actually a human being that's going to talk to people about my cancer, it puts people at ease."

His handle on all social media platforms is @drdonsdizon.
