EAST GREENWICH, R.I. (WJAR) — Rhode Island Medical Imaging will soon be opening a new type of Breast Imaging Center in East Greenwich.
They’re calling it Rhode Island's only out-patient facility offering 3D digital mammogram guided breast biopsies in an upscale way.
"You're either nervous about what's about to happen to you or the outcome,” said Janet Hatch, director of operations for RI Medical Imaging.
Therefore, RI Medical Imaging is paying attention to detail.
"This is a full-service breast center with a spa-like feel and state-of-the-art equipment,” said Dr. Linda Donegan, director of mammography for RI Medical Imaging.
"When we were working with the architect, we tried to pick soothing finishes. Everything we're going to put here were designed to make patients feel comfortable and put at ease.
In other words, no hospital Johnny’s there. Instead, patients will wear plush robes.
“Something to make our patients feel so warm and comfortable," said Hatch.
There will be two mammography rooms, in addition to diagnostic rooms.
"We have the latest biopsy capabilities, which shortens the biopsy time and make it a more comfortable exam for the patient, so that's a stereotactic biopsy using digital mammography to guide us," said Donegan. "I think screening mammography is making the biggest difference, starting at age 40. You pick up more cancers earlier and with better treatment, you save lives."
The new breast imaging center is expected to open August 1.
