NBC 10 I-Team: RI extends contract with Deloitte
Rhode Island has extended its contract with Deloitte, which is the vendor responsible for a computer system filled with glitches at the Department of Human Services, or DHS.
While it comes down to cost, Rhode Island is not paying for the extension.
State leaders said if they went with another company they would end up paying even more.
So, the contract with Deloitte has been extended through March 2019 at no additional cost to taxpayers.
Thousands of vulnerable people were cut off from social services when the UHIP system launched in September 2016.
Health and Human Services Secretary Eric Beane said in a statement that he'll continue to hold Deloitte accountable and to look for a new company to run the system long-term.
