5 rescued after catamaran capsizes off of Jamestown

Five people were rescued Saturday afternoon after a catamaran capsized south of Beavertail Lighthouse.

The Coast Guard says the received the call around 1 p.m. and sent two boats.

Once on scene, they found two catamarans in distress. The first was capsized with two people with life jackets in the water and three more people still on the boat. All five were rescued and the boat has been towed back to Dutch Harbor Boat Yard.

A second catamaran had a broken mast and was escorted back to East Passage by the Coast Guard. There were four people on board.

The Coast Guard says no serious injuries have been reported.
