An emergency call into the Mansfield Police Department helped officers stop an erratic driver.

Authorities said a woman called 911 after seeing a driver swerving erratically down Resevoir Street in Norton.

“She’s been swerving all over the road,” the caller said. “She was in some guy’s yard.”

The caller goes on to describe the scene.

“She’s going left. She’s getting on the highway now,” the caller said. “Oh, she almost just took out a car. Oh! And she just went off the highway and, oh, good Lord. She just went up and over the curb and into the guardrail.”

When police found the driver, they pulled her over just before her Ford Explorer fully entered a highway ramp.

Police said they are thankful to the caller, noting that the driver put all lives on the road at risk. They are grateful the situation didn’t turn deadly.

Police said the driver was under the influence of drugs or alcohol, had an open container in the car and was driving on a suspended license.

The driver, who has not been identified, will face multiple charges in Attleboro District Court Wednesday morning.
