A former Rhode Island man accused of faking his own death to avoid an alleged sex assault case in the United States was arrested again Thursday in Scotland after skipping a court appearance.

Nicholas Alahverdian was arrested a short time after missing the hearing. Officials said he would appear in court Friday.

On March 3, 2020, a statement claiming to be from the family of Alahverdian said he died after battling non-Hodgkin lymphoma. He was found last month in a Scottish hospital, where he was being treated for COVID-19 symptoms.

He'll eventually be brought back to the United States.

Alahverdian was a longtime child welfare reform advocate in Rhode Island.
