Man shot, killed in Fall River; Suspect arrested
A 24-year-old man was shot and killed in Fall River Wednesday, according to authorities.
Bristol County District Attorney Thomas Quinn III said police arrested 19-year-old Keishon Workman, of Fall River, in connection to the shooting.
Workman was taken into custody on multiple charges, including the following:
- Carrying an illegal firearm
- Carrying a loaded illegal firearm
- Illegal possession of ammunition
Quinn said police responded to calls about shots fired in the area of South Main Street around 4:30 p.m.
When authorities arrived at the scene, Quinn said they found a man suffering from a gunshot would. He was taken to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
"The victim’s identity cannot be released at this time as next of kin have yet to be notified of the death," Quinn said.
But Chantelle Keating told NBC 10 News the unidentified man was expecting the birth of his daughter this month. She also said he was one of her best friends.
"I thought to myself, no way. This cannot be true, not him," Keating said, also describing him as a positive and generous person. "He would do anything for anyone at any time of the day. He was the only person to listen to me and give me positive feedback."
Keating said her cousin was driving by and saw the shooting unfold.
"She said she saw the kids running and that she looked on the ground and the kid was laying on the ground and someone was banging on the window saying, 'Call 911, my friend just got shot,'" Keating said.
Meanwhile, Quinn said Workman will be arraigned Thursday morning in Fall River District Court.
