Bank robbery suspect arrested after police track GPS device hidden in money

    Police in Providence are investigating after they responded to a bank robbery on Westminster Street Saturday morning.

    Officers were dispatched to the TD Bank at 180 Westminster Street at about 9:30 a.m.

    Providence police said a man entered the bank, handed the bank teller a note asking for cash, and then fled on foot towards Kennedy Plaza with the bag of money.

    It is unclear at this time how much money was stolen from the bank.

    Police said the man was quickly apprehended by Cranston police officers inside a Dollar Tree at 1285 Reservoir Avenue with two other men who were allegedly inside the store with the suspect.

    Detectives are not sure if they will be charging the other two men.

    Providence police told NBC 10 News the bank teller slipped a GPS tracker inside the bag, which helped authorities track the suspect.

    No injuries were reported.

    The robbery remains under investigation.
