Bridge replacement closes highway, causes traffic
95 North in Exeter at Exit 4 is shut down.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation is replacing the Old Tefft Hill Trail Bridge that carries the highway over an access road leading to Arcadia.
"It was trending towards being unsafe so rather than wasting money for repairs we best thought it to put a new structure in place," said Kyle Gagnon, RIDOT project manager.
RIDOT officials say the goal is to open the bridge before the Monday morning traffic commute at 5 am.
Drivers who would normally go over the bridge have to take Route 3 in order to get back on the highway in West Greenwich.
RIDOT officials tell NBC 10 they encourage drivers to remain patient and to follow the police details they have in place to direct traffic.
"We are trending ahead of schedule. We'll keep the public notified when we can open 95 North," said Gagnon.
