Cranston police: Drivers strike pole on New London Avenue

Cranston police said Friday that several cars struck a pole that fell across all of the travel lanes of New London Avenue near the Pastore Center.

Police said they closed New London Avenue between Howard Avenue and Route 37 at about 6:40 a.m.

The pole was apparently knocked down by the wind before dawn, and drivers didn't see it in the dark.

Traffic started moving again by 8 a.m.

No injuries were reported.
