Johnston town officials and the Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals made a new attempt Friday to catch a wild turkey that's been disrupting traffic for weeks.

They failed.

Animal control officers armed with various nets chased the turkey down Atwood Avenue at about 8 a.m., but did not catch it.

A net launcher jammed when they got close enough, and the turkey ran down the middle of the street toward a shopping plaza.

The turkey is one of three that paraded around outside of Town Hall, diving in and out of traffic, and intimidating drivers.

Two of those birds were caught and released at Snake Den State Park.
