In a holiday season unlike any other, a local campground is giving families a safe way to celebrate.

"In a year where a lot of family probably need to be changed, this is something where it's going to be a new family tradition, we're allowing people to start," said Andrew Adams, chief operating officer of Bold Media.

This year, Bold Media is teaming up with Wawaloam Campground to host the Rhode Island Holiday Light Show. It runs Thursday through Sunday until the end of December. Tickets are $23 for Thursdays and Sundays and $25 for Fridays and Saturdays, which must be bought online.

"We have different things like castles, Victorian scenes that we have in Christmas lights and it's really cool to see," said Adams.

The display is about a mile-long and takes about 25 minutes to drive through. It was planned last year, before COVID-19. Now, organizers said the drive-thru format is proving to be the safest option for families.

"We're doing things like contact-less check-in, buying tickets online and different safety protocols that we have in place for our staff," said Adams.

On opening weekend, Adams said about 1,200 cars showed up to check it out. It will be open every night during the week of Christmas.

"We're really proud to be able to put that forward for people," said Adams. "Especially in 2020, when people need it now more than ever."
