The corruption trial of former Fall River Mayor Jasiel Correia and his chief of staff, Genoveva Andrade, will likely begin Jan. 13, according to The Herald News.
A pretrial conference was held Tuesday by video conference.
The judge set the date over the objections of attorneys for both Correia and Andrade, who wanted the trial delayed because of the pandemic.
Correia faces 24 federal fraud charges connected to a smartphone app he developed.
He's also accused of extorting hundreds of thousands of dollars from prospective marijuana vendors in the city.
Co-defendant Genoveva Andrade, his former chief of staff, is facing extortion and bribery charges in connection to the corruption investigation into Correia.
Correia took a leave of absence and ended his campaign for re-election a year ago this week.
