I-95 North reopens ahead of schedule
RIDOT reports that I-95 North at Tefft Hill Trail is now open.
The work was completed about 20 hours ahead of schedule.
All cars were being diverted off the highway Friday night as bridge repairs in Interstate 95 at exit 4 in Exeter began.
The Rhode Island Department of Transportation had said the highway in Exeter-West Greenwich area would be closed for 56 hours, starting at 9 p.m. All travel lanes were to be reopened at 5 a.m. Monday.
The DOT replaced the Tefft Hill Trail Bridge. The department said the "rapid bridge replacement" strategy will save $1 million and avoid four months of highway delays.
During the closure, all northbound traffic was required to take exit 4 to Route 3 north. Trucks had to get back onto I-95 using the Route 102 interchange in West Greenwich. Passenger vehicles had to continue along Route 3 north and use the exit 6 interchange, also in West Greenwich.
