K-9 recovers gun tossed by suspect in Coventry woods

    A Rhode Island State Police K-9 recovered a gun that was allegedly tossed in the woods by a Scituate man who waved it near a grocery store Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

    Officers responded to a report of an incident involving a gun in the area of Dave's Market at about 4 p.m.

    The Coventry Police Department identified Casey White, 27, as the suspect.

    White was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and license or permit required for carrying a pistol.

    "A short time later, information was received that White may have discarded the firearm in the woods off Sandy Bottom Rd.," said Coventry police in a press release Friday.

    The department and other officials attempted to find the gun, but were unsuccessful. However, with the help of K-9 Annie, the gun was located.

    White was held overnight at Coventry Police Headquarters and is expected to be arraigned in Kent District Court Friday.
