Rhode Island State Police K-9, Annie, recovers gun tossed by suspect in the woods off Sandy Bottom Rd. in Coventry on Thursday, Nov. 9, 2018.

A Rhode Island State Police K-9 recovered a gun that was allegedly tossed in the woods by a Scituate man who waved it near a grocery store Thursday afternoon, according to authorities.

Officers responded to a report of an incident involving a gun in the area of Dave's Market at about 4 p.m.

The Coventry Police Department identified Casey White, 27, as the suspect.

White was charged with assault with a deadly weapon and license or permit required for carrying a pistol.

"A short time later, information was received that White may have discarded the firearm in the woods off Sandy Bottom Rd.," said Coventry police in a press release Friday.

The department and other officials attempted to find the gun, but were unsuccessful. However, with the help of K-9 Annie, the gun was located.

White was held overnight at Coventry Police Headquarters and is expected to be arraigned in Kent District Court Friday.
