Man faces numerous charges after Seekonk police chase
A Warren man is facing numerous charges after leading Seekonk Police on a pursuit across state lines into Rhode Island.
Seekonk Police say at around 9:45 p.m. Friday night, one of their officers observed a vehicle pulling into the Motel 6 on Fall River Ave. The vehicle has license plates registered to a different vehicle.
Police say once the vehicle left the hotel, the officer tried to pull it over and the driver fled onto I-195 east. The suspect then got off at exit 2 and crossed into Rhode Island where the pursuit was terminated. Warren Police and Rhode Island State Police were then notified of the pursuit.
Seekonk Police say a witness told the officers that the vehicle pulled in behind the Country Inn on Market Street. Officers found the suspect walking away from the vehicle and he was placed under arrest.
The suspect, 35-year-old Derek Renaud, was arrested by Warren Police as a fugitive from Justice in Massachusetts. He also had three outstanding warrants in Massachusetts including shoplifting by means of a dangerous weapon.
Seekonk Police have charged Renaud with unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, negligent operation as well as other charges.
