Man, woman recovering after West Warwick fire
A West Warwick man and his mother are recovering after they escaped a fire that broke out at a multi-family house.
The State Fire Marshal’s office said Wednesday the man was released from the hospital. While his mother is still hospitalized, she is recovering.
Flames broke out at the home on Curson Street early Saturday morning.
Town Councilor Jason Messier said one of the families has young children.
"One 11 months old up to 13 years old, and right before Christmas. This situation would be awful at any time, but coming two-and-a-half weeks before Christmas, it's awful," said Messier, who’s put the word out on social media he's collecting items for those affected.
Gel's Kitchen at 1745 Main St. in West Warwick has become a donation site for those affected by the fire.
Messier also said the town is honoring Officer Brian Goetz at Tuesday's council meeting, who rushed into the burning home to help.
The cause of the fire remains officially undetermined because it's unsafe for investigators to go in where fire started, but it's not suspicious.
