Newport Grand Casino worker says she was paid less than male colleague
An employee of Rhode Island’s Newport Grand Casino has filed a discrimination lawsuit against the facility alleging she has been paid significantly less than a younger male employee with the same job.
The suit filed Wednesday by the American Civil Liberties Union of Rhode Island says the casino violated federal and state laws banning workplace discrimination based on gender and age.
The suit says Paula Borrelli has worked as night manager on duty since 2008. It says in December 2016, she learned that a younger male colleague was paid about $4,000 more annually. She asked for a raise but was denied without explanation in May 2017.
She is seeking unspecified damages and back pay.
A spokeswoman for casino ownership says they do not comment on personnel matters or lawsuits.
