Nordstrom sends 181 termination notices to Providence Place workers
Complying with a federal law, Nordstrom sent out 181 termination notices for its employees at the Providence Place location.
While the notice comes as no surprise, as plans to close the store broke in early October, the notice is mandated by way of the Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification law, or WARN, that compels large employers to notify their employees 60 days in advance of a mass layoff.
The store will be open through the holidays, and according to the WARN filing the effective termination date would be January 4th 2019.
A Boscov’s is set to replace Nordstrom.
On the NBC 10 Sunrise show, the scrolling-text ticker misidentified the location of the layoffs. The Nordstrom Rack store at Warwick Mall is not affected.
