An oil truck caught fire Friday morning in Cumberland, with its driver suffering second degree burns to his face and hands.

The fire was reported at about 8 a.m. on Mendon Road.

Fire officials said oil was put in the truck’s 55-gallon tank by mistake, causing an arc flash and sparking the fire. The oil spilled and caught fire, with the truck also taking on flames.

The driver of truck was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he was treated. His condition wasn’t immediately available.

The oil truck company was Henry Oil.
