PawSox to become Pawtucket Hot Weiners for August game
With all the fears that Pawtucket’s minor league team may move to Worcester, comes a name change most PawSox fans won’t mind. In August, the team will take the field as the Pawtucket Hot Wieners.
The name change will be for one game against the Durham Bulls on August 16 as a way to pay tribute to Rhode Island’s most famous cuisine says the team.
The merchandise has already been revealed. The new logo has a pup in a flaming bun in mid dash.
The Jersey sports the new name “Hot Wieners” in a red neon-sign font with Pawtucket encircling it in blue. That Jersey will run you nearly $100, but plenty of other styles and price ranges
“The Hot Wiener All the Way is a taste of Rhode Island,” said PawSox Senior Vice President of Sales & Marketing Rob Crain. “We hope Rhode Islanders enjoy this opportunity to have a little fun when we take the field on August 16 as the Pawtucket Hot Wieners.”
The PawSox aren’t the only minor league team to have some fun with their name, earlier this month the Staten Island Yankees announced they will play games as the Staten Island Pizza Rats after the beloved internet meme won a naming contest.
