(WJAR) — A Pawtucket woman and her boyfriend were arrested Tuesday after police said the woman's child tested positive for exposure to multiple narcotics.
Pawtucket police said emergency responders were called on Monday to an apartment on Prospect Street for a report of a 2-year-old child unresponsive and not breathing. The child was taken to Hasbro Children's Hospital.
The Department of Children, Youth and Families were called to the hospital to assist with the investigation and the mother, 21-year-old Emarys Cruz and her boyfriend, 28-year-old Jeifry Dejesus provided statements to police.
Tests later showed the child tested positive for exposure to fentanyl, cocaine, and xylazine.
A search warrant was executed where detectives found and seized narcotics at the apartment.
Cruz and Dejesus were arrested Tuesday on numerous drug offenses and child endangerment. They are being held overnight and will be arraigned Wednesday in the 6th District Court in Providence.
Police said the child has since recovered and is in stable condition.
